Advertisement Production


Today, we were introduced to our new assignment. We found out that we were going to work with a Mental Health charity called Mind, which is based in Rochdale. We were also told that we are going to create an advert promoting Mind and also to raise awareness about Mental ilness. Richard took the class through the brief and he explained to us exactly what he wants us to achieve from the unit. 



The class met someone who works at Mind yesterday and we discussed how Mind works, how they help and the treatment which is offered. We asked many questions and understood the basis of what MIND does and what they are about. I learnt that they are a communicating facility, not a medical facility. They are fun, exciting, busy and diverse. The most common two things people suffer from when seeking aid by MIND are Anxiety and self-esteem.

The class went to visit the Mind centre in Rochdale. There we met our client, John, who took us through the different services Mind has to offer. We also looked at what sort of activities people participate in, for example when we went to visit an allotment, people who are getting help from Mind were planting seeds and they were gardening. Also, we visited a music studio, where people can make beats or songs. There was a little theatre also in there too. Overall it was an overwhelming experience because it showed me who my class is working with and it gave me  insight to their world and how they spend all their time helping people.
Today the class performed their pitch to Richard, John, and two other people representing Mind Charity. There was a slight delay which gave pitchers more time to prepare for the pitch. I talked about, feasibillity, my actors, my location and also my synopsis. My pitch was a total of 8 slides. I was comfortable during the whole process and i felt confident enough to speak in front of the client and there was a camera present which didn't put me off. Overall i found the pitch to be a success. I was open to the questions our client asked me, i felt i had explained enough for them to get a good idea of the advert.


Today, the class found out who's idea got picked. I was chosen to make my advert. We also found out which members of the class were in which directors group. Richard told all the directors the Pre Production dates, the shooting dates, and also the editing slot.





Today, the class were officially in pre production. First up, Richard told us to fill out a meeting record sheet, which was about the group, what work they had to do, and who was present. We also got contact info from members of my group so if one person was needed but wasnt present, they could call or email me telling me why they arent present etc. My group, which consisted of Me, Rain and Thomas, completed all of our pre production work within 2 days, which was quicker then expected. But i have a fantastic team who have really worked hard in getting it done. The Pre-Prod work contained a shot list, equipment list, Recce Form, Story board etc.

Today the group had a one on one meeting with Richard and we talked about whether we felt the group was ready to film or not. Richard and i came to a conclusion that the team wasn't quite ready as yet because Richard wasn't quite sure what the shoot would end up like. Therefore, Richard told the group to go back and work on the shot list so Richard had a good idea of exactly what we wanted to shoot.
